Rlung, Rtsa and the Tibetan Body: A Complete Guide·Glossary
Glossary & pronunciation
Tibetan is written with many silent letters. The scholarly transliteration (Wylie) records what is written, not what is heard. The differences are dramatic:
| Written | Pronounced | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| rlung | lung | wind |
| rtsa | tsa | channel |
| thig le | tigle | drop |
| gtum mo | tummo | “the fierce one” |
| ‘khrul ‘khor | trul-khor | “magical wheel” |
| rdzogs chen | dzogchen | “great completeness” |
| bar do | bardo | intermediate state |
| srog rlung | sok-lung | vital wind |
| rgyud bzhi | gyü-shi | “Four Tantras” |
| bla | la | vital force |
| sngon ‘gro | ngöndro | preliminaries |
| blo sbyong | lojong | mind training |
In the text I give both. Do not try to pronounce the written form.
